How to use

How to read MTR train times

Some trains do not run the full line

Trains from the same platform can have different destinations. On the Kwun Tong Line, trains from Tiu Keng Leng alternate between Ho Man Tin and Whampoa, and on the Tseung Kwan O Line, trains to Po Lam and LOHAS Park divide after Tseung Kwan O. Choose “Going to” and the page marks the trains that call there, using the MTR's published station order.

Times are MTR estimates

The MTR gives estimated times for up to the next four trains in each direction, and they change as trains run. If you are in a hurry, follow the platform displays and station announcements.

East Rail Line shows arrivals and departures

Only the East Rail Line says whether a time is an arrival or a departure, and marks trains running via Racecourse instead of Fo Tan. For other lines the MTR describes the time only as an estimated arrival or departure time.

Termini and missing trains

At a terminus you only see the departing direction. If the MTR gives no trains for a direction, the page says so; it does not assume service has ended or estimate the first train.

Coverage and limitations

Covers the Airport Express, Tung Chung, Tuen Ma, Tseung Kwan O, East Rail, South Island, Tsuen Wan, Island, Kwun Tong and Disneyland Resort lines. Light Rail, MTR Bus and the high-speed rail are not included. Up to four trains per direction. There may be no trains after service hours, during special arrangements or in a system fault. The MTR's delay flag and messages are shown as published; Agoodeal does not infer causes.

Method and calculations

Minutes are “estimated time − MTR system time”, updated for the time elapsed between reads. The MTR data dictionary lists the ttnt, valid and source fields as undefined, so this page does not use them. “Calls at” follows the MTR's published station order, including the LOHAS Park and Lok Ma Chau branches; the page does not plan journeys with a change of train. If data cannot be updated for more than 2 minutes, the page shows clock times and stops counting down.
